🏙️ The Silent Towers and the Silenced Voices

Here in Australia, we’re blessed with one of the most breathtaking urban landscapes in the world, Sydney Harbour, framed by the shimmering city skyline.

But as night falls, a strange emptiness reveals itself. Towering five-star apartment buildings stand mostly dark, their lights off in 60% or more of the units.

These aren’t homes, they’re vaults.

Owned by absentee investors, often foreign, they serve as financial parking lots rather than places for people to live.

This isn’t just a quirk of the market; it’s a systemic failure. Properties across the country sit empty,

deliberately withheld from lease or sale, while everyday Australians are priced out of their own cities. The housing crisis isn’t accidental.

It’s engineered. And our governments, on all sides, enable it. They do not protect the people. They protect the portfolios.

Speak out, and you’re crucified. You’re branded with the “R” word, racist, for daring to question the ethics of foreign investment or the morality of hoarding homes.

The conversation is shut down before it begins.

And then there’s the glaring conflict of interest. Our Prime Minister, reportedly the owner of 14 investment properties, recently paid cash for a $4 million home.

Let’s be honest: if you held that much real estate, would you want prices to fall? Would you want rents to drop? Of course not. You’d want the market to keep climbing.

And if you were in a position of power, say, the highest office in the land, you’d have the influence to help make that happen.

This is not just unethical. It’s dangerous. When those who shape policy also profit from its outcomes, democracy is compromised.

The housing market becomes a playground for the powerful, while ordinary Australians struggle to put food on the table, let alone dream of owning a home.

And yet, the cycle continues. The electorate keeps voting for the same self-serving elites, mistaking polished speeches for integrity.

Meanwhile, the towers stay dark, the homes stay empty, and the people stay locked out.
